Description
Throughout history, transportation agencies have fostered and implemented new methods and means to innovatively and cost-effectively extend eh service life of our transportation infrastructure while minimizing the impact of road work on the road users.  By fostering collaboration between government agencies and industry, it is possible to develop new policies, processes and procedures to reduce time and cost and improve the safety of our transportation infrastructure. 

In this webinar, we will explore highlights of innovation roadway infrastructure delivery and construction techniques.  Participants will be introduced to innovations in road construction from around the world including:

• Warm mix asphalt
• Pre-cast concrete slabs
• Accelerated bridge construction
• High friction surfaces
• New quality assurance techniques such as ground penetrating radar and infrared imaging
• Thin surface restoration techniques
• In-place recycling techniques for pavement renewal
• Geosynthetic pavement reinforcement
• Quiet pavement surfaces and treatments
• In-place recycling
• Intelligent compaction
• Dynamic road paint and warning systems
• Solar energy roads
• Self healing asphalt and concrete materials

We will introduce the technique/technology and outline how they can assist in reducing project time and costs and maximize the value and terms of life-cycle costs.  We will present key factors for success, best practices and available resources to assist in implementing the techniques/technologies.

FORMATEUR

David Hein, P.Eng

David is a consulting Civil Engineer with over 38 years of experience in designing, evaluating and managing transportation infrastructure. He is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers Transportation and Development Institute (ASCE T&DI), chair of the Workforce Development and Codes and Standards Councils and chair of 5 engineering standards committees. He is a long-term member of the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), Past-Chair of the pavements committee and member of the Soils and Materials and Asset Management Committees.

He is also a member of the Workforce Development Council and Chair of the Professional Development Committee. He is also a past member of the Transportation Research Board pavement management, pavement maintenance and pavement preservation committees. He has represented Canada on the World Road Association (WRA) pavements and asset management committees since 2002 and is currently the Chair of the Canadian National Committee to the WRA. He recently stepped down after 10 years as Executive Director of the Falling Weight Deflectometer User Group.

He has been involved in numerous national and international research, evaluation and asset management projects for Federal, State, Provincial and Municipal agencies and many of the public/private/ partnership highway construction projects across Canada and the United States.
