Description
Understanding fire safety regulations is essential for protecting occupants and properties from fires. This course examines the Ontario Fire Code, detailing its importance in setting a minimum fire and life safety standard in all building types. You'll gain insight into the legislative framework that governs fire safety inspections, focusing on the Fire Protection and Prevention Act. Participants will delve into the current legislation governing fire and life safety inspections, including an explanation of the three lines of defense in the province: public fire safety education, fire safety standards, and effective emergency response.

Participants will explore the legal responsibilities of building owners to maintain compliance with the Ontario Fire Code and the implications of the enforceable code editions. This course will also cover fire risks in assembly, residential, mercantile, and industrial occupancies, outlining specific safety protocols for each. Additionally, you will learn about the role of proper housekeeping in preventing fire hazards, offering practical advice on identifying and mitigating common issues that could lead to code violations.

FORMATEUR

John Percy, CFAA Tech, FPO, PFLSE, CFEI

John Percy, Office of the Fire Marshal, Ontario Fire College.

John is a certified Canadian Fire Alarm Association Technician (CFAA) for Ontario, public fire & life safety educator, fire prevention officer and currently an Instructor with the Office of the Fire Marshal. He has over 28 years of experience in the fire protection and fire service industries. He has experience with enforcement of the Ontario Fire & Building codes, fire investigations, education, media relations and building plans examination review. Currently registered (BCIN) as a Fire Protection Inspector with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing in Ontario.
