Infrastructure asset management (IAM) is a strategic approach to managing physical public infrastructure, focusing on maintaining and enhancing the value of assets over their lifecycle. It involves a systematic process to ensure infrastructure assets are used efficiently and sustainably. Effective asset management addresses critical issues such as infrastructure deterioration and the increasing demand for services, ensuring that public infrastructure remains reliable, efficient, and sustainable.

FORMATEUR

Khaled Shahata, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Dr. Khaled Shahata is an asset management leader with over 15 years of experience in municipal and public-sector infrastructure planning. He currently serves as Project Manager, Asset Management – Infrastructure Programming at the Region of Peel. Previously, Khaled led the City of London’s Corporate Asset Management Division, managing a $30 billion portfolio across water, wastewater, roads, parks, and other core services. He is known for advancing level of service strategies, integrating climate change into infrastructure planning, and implementing modern asset management systems. He is also an Instructor at the University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNFC), teaching data analytics and visualization in the Master of Data Analytics program, with a focus on applying tools like Tableau and Power BI to real-world asset management.

Khaled holds a Ph.D. in Construction Management from Concordia University and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Ontario. He has been an EPIC instructor since 2011, delivering training to municipalities and agencies across Canada.

He currently serves as Vice Chair of Asset Management Ontario (AMONTario) and Regional Director – Ontario on the Board of the Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM).
