After participating in this course, you will be able to:
- Be able to recognize and use current common pavement design procedures
- Understand key components and factors necessary for the cost-effective design of flexible and rigid pavements
- Understand the common design and construction features essential to the performance of both asphalt and concrete-surfaced pavements
- Design and recognize specification and construction activities that can improve the performance of pavement
- Personnel involved in the design or management of transportation assets
- Pavement network owners and administrators
- Architects, engineers and other professionals involved in the design, evaluation and management of pavements
- Provincial and municipal agencies
- Private sector owners of flexible and rigid pavements
Description
Parking lots, municipal roadways, airports and major highways all use some form of pavement. However, each application may be served by a specific pavement type. Some may be constructed using flexible pavement, others with rigid pavement. Which types design, specification, subgrade preparation, base/subbase and surface types and function, construction details, and long-term functional and structural performance considerations to ensure a long life and effective product.

FORMATEUR

David is a consulting Civil Engineer with over 40 years of experience in designing, evaluating and managing transportation infrastructure. He is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers Transportation and Development Institute (ASCE T&DI), chair of the Codes and Standards Council and chair of 2 engineering standards committees. He is a long-term member of the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), Past-Chair of the pavements committee and member of the Soils and Materials and Asset Management Committees. He is also a member of the Workforce Development Council and Chair of the Professional Development Committee.
David has represented Canada on the World Road Association (WRA) pavements and asset management committees since 2002 and is currently the Chair of the Canadian National Committee to the WRA. He recently stepped down after 10 years as Executive Director of the Falling Weight Deflectometer User Group.
He has been involved in numerous national and international research, evaluation and asset management projects for Federal, State, Provincial and Municipal agencies and many of the public/private/ partnership highway construction projects across Canada and the United States.
